MOVIE REVIEW - RAYA AND THE LAST DRAGON

Disney again presents animated films with a fairly interesting ethnic-cultural background. This time the countries in Southeast Asia became the latest Disney animation background titled 'Raya and the Last Dragon'. This animated film is full of symbols and cultures of the typical Southeast Asian countries, ranging from clothing, settings, and culinary, to martial arts that are widely served.

Raya and the last dragon is set in Kumandra, a large area where dragons and humans can live in harmony. However, this harmonious life is disturbed by evil forces that can turn humans and dragons into stones. The last dragon left in this big battle finally combined their strength with a dragon ball and handed over the power to the smallest dragon to destroy evil forces.

500 years later, Kumandra is no longer a big country. Kumandra was fragmented into five small countries named dragon parts, ranging from talon, heart, fang, spine, and tail. The heart is the country of Raya's birthplace as well as the place where the dragon ball resides as well as a protector from evil magic. But for some reason, the dragon ball that holds the power of the protection of the dragon falls and is divided to make evil magic reappear and rage in various countries.

The animated film Raya and The Last Dragon has an interesting story to follow. Apart from visuals that are full of culture that is close to Indonesia and the country in Southeast Asia, this film is able to present an exciting adventure story even though it is still with a storyline with the same concept as the previous Disney Princess story. With the outline of the story of a daughter who is adventuring and struggling to defeat crime and restore peace, the figure of the Raya is described as a brave woman who is able to be a good leader.

With visual graphics that spoil the eyes, Disney is indeed the best to make animated films. In Raya and The Last Dragon directed by Don Hall and Carlos López Estrada, too. The audience seemed to be invited to enter the beautiful land of Kumandra, but full of disputes.

In Scoring, this film is well-made, back sound to the soundtrack that is attached to the film as if it is fused and makes each scene has its own taste. Raya, the main character is voiced by Kelly Mane Tran. Sisu, the hilarious legendary dragon filled by Awkwafina's voice. There is also Gemma Chan who filled the voices of Namari and Daniel Dae Kim who filled the sound of Benja's characters. Everything succeeded in representing the sound of each character according to the portion.

The film Raya and The Last Dragon has a message about unity in differences. This has been echoed since the beginning of the film when Benja, the head of the Klan Hati, said that unity would produce peace. The spirit was then carried away by this film until the end. Even at the end of the film, not just a message of unity is highlighted. But also a matter of trust and belief in each other even though each comes from a different group. The message of diversity in the unity and beliefs that emerge between this group is very open and can really be felt by the audience.

Describe the setting :

Kumandra : This film is about a woman named raya who has to find the last dragon to restore peace in a place called kumandra. It is said that this film is in kumandra, where five tribes of refuge are. Each has a different culture in which the background is inspired by different places in southeast Asia.

Heart : Rresides in Heart, which is arguably Kumandra's most important location seeing as it houses the ancient Dragon Gem. Her father, Benja, is the Chief of Heart and a sworn guardian of the powerful orb kept hidden in the land.

Fang : North of Heart on the kingdom of Kumandra's map is Fang, the most dangerous enemies in the eyes of Raya. Fang is the home of Namaari and her mother, Chieftess Virana.

Spine : Those traveling east from Fang and Heart will eventually arrive in Spine, the snow-covered bamboo forest guarded by giant warriors. The Spine clan often wears muted clothes that feature multiple layers due to the cold climate.

Talon : Raya describes the land of Talon as a floating market, and the village is exactly that when she arrives in the region in the hopes of attaining Chief Dang Hai's gem piece. The citizens of Talon wear purple and are known for having fast hands.

Tail : Tail resides at the very end of Kumandra’s Dragon River, but it actually serves as the first stop in the adventurous journey at the center of Raya and the Last Dragon.

Briefly summarize plot :

Raya and the last dragon is held in kumandra, a large area where dragons and humans can live in harmony. However, this harmonious life is disturbed by forces of evil that can turn man and dragon into stone. The last dragons left in this great battle finally combine their power to a dragon ball and yield that power to the smallest dragon to destroy the forces of evil. However, 500 years later, the evil monster known as the druids had once again stirred up the peace of the land of kumadra. Raya with her friend, tuk tuk is present to find sisu's last dragon and stop druun for good. The journey brings obstacles and challenges. The feast must enter a cave in order to find sisu the last dragon. However, when sisu listened to the grand story, she began to doubt her own strength. Raya and sisu and some of the friends he met had to take a step and fight to reunite the land of kumandra with that of peace and harmony.

Scenes we like best in movie :

In the last scene of the fight the enemy will be druun. Namaari holding the last fragment of the gems gathered for raya, boun, tong, noi and three monkeys teamed up to defeat the druids. There is only one way to defeat druun: trust in one another to unite, including the shards of the sisu. This is the real problem because boun, tong, noi and three stranded monkeys holding the other gem fragments already hate namaari for killing sisu.

However, the universe is different. Given the message of sisu and chairman benja to trust each other, the highway was finally beginning to hand over the pieces of the gem to namaari. Highway wants namaari to put all the pieces back together.

Cut off from the gem, the druids devoured the earth and turned to stone. This is followed by boun, tong, and noi and three bagged monkeys who finally put their precious gems in namaari. All that remains is not a stone now only a name because it has all the fragments of the gem. Namaari finally made the right choice: to bring all the gems back together until he finally did not take one piece and joined the rock with the gem and the other. It would be an unselfish act to run away and choose to help the almighty and his friends.

Scenes that we not like :

The scene when namaari comes home to his territory and tells his mother that he has seen the last dragon. But the mother, who was also the chief of the tribe, was planning to seize the pieces of gem crystals that the monks had collected and also seize sisu so that they would not be blamed for any mistakes they had made in the past.

Would you recommend that your readers see see that movie? Why or why not ?

Yes, we would

It is a family film packed with fascinating detail and color animation and a seasoning of light comedy that can be enjoyed by all ages has a very touching message and can teach lessons for both children and adults.

And from this film we can learn the message that based on mutual trust in each other will engender confidence in humanity and mutual respect which can unite a divided nation. Because it cannot be denied that trust is one of the chief foundations for creating love and affection for one's fellow creatures. And what matters is that love is the best thing that living things can do and give each other.
